Tart & Tangy Summer Birthday Card

Share
ANNOUNCEMENT: The Artisan's are at it again!  Come see the 2010-11 Award-winning projects for a 2 week blog hop!  Starts Monday, August 2nd, at 10AM EDT.

Today's card is summer-inspired. I just love summer time and look forward to it so much.  I enjoyed fireworks and fried food for the 4th while celebrating our Independence Day, next weekend I am headed out of town for a little get-away in Wyoming filled with boating, 4-wheeling, and lots of star-gazing.  What's not to love about summer??

This is a card we will be making in our card club this month (contact me if you'd like to come!).  I used two techniques you might like to know about.  The first is called "Rock n' Roll" (don't you love that name for a stampin technique??).  I used that technique to create the duo color combo on the orange slices by first inking my stamp in Daffodil Delight ink, and then rolling the edges of the image in the pumpkin pie ink.  Easy!

The second technique is more of a "cheat".  I didn't have anything but a couple of pumpkin pie ribbon scraps hanging around, so I cheated and used a strip of 1/4" pumpkin pie cardstock and then adhered just the bow on top of that strip.  I'll bet you didn't even notice!  It's a great technique to use to help you use up those cardstock scraps AND ribbon scraps!

Ready to have some Stampin' fun?? CLICK HERE to go to my Stampin' Up! website to order any of the supplies you need, item numbers are listed below under "Stampin' Supplies".

Christmas Cards on Parade

Share
Today was my "Season's Greetings for Seniors" Charitable event, and I am so excited about all the Christmas cards we'll be able to donate! The Senior Care centers were so excited when I called and asked if I could donate personalized, handmade Christmas cards. Here are the cards we made for the event:

Recipe:

Stamps: Sparkly & Bright (115346) Tools: 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-3/8", 1-3/4" Circle Punches (104390, 107217, 109046, 104401, 112004), Embellishments: 5/8" Certainly Celery Grosgrain (109050), Ink: Chocolate Chip Ink (100908), Real Red Marker (100052), Always Artichoke (105219), Paper: Certainly Celery (105125), Real Red (102482), Chocolate Chip (102128), Always Artichoke (105119), Whisper White (100730)

One of the many things I love about all of Stampin' Up!'s publications is the FANTASTIC, EASY (I can do it!), ideas! I CASED (card-making speak for "mostly copied") this card (and a couple more coming up) from the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog. Don't have a Mini Catty to call your own? Well, what are you waiting for?? Just EMAIL ME your address, and I'll put yours in the mail for FREE!

Stamps: Four the Holidays (116921), Itty Bitty Backgrounds (114996) Embellishments: Mistletoe Ribbon Originals (116792) Ink: Chocolate Chip Ink (100908) Paper: Merry Moments DSP (115672), Old Olive (100702), Chocolate Chip (102128), Very Vanilla (101650)

Have you seen the NEW ornament punch (116794) in the Holiday Mini?? It coordinates perfectly with the Delightful Decorations stamp set (116517) I used in the card above and below. LOVE it!

This stamp set is one of my favorites in the entire Idea Book & Catalog. It is a Level 2 Christmas Punch Hostess set (115366-FREE! with a qualifying order or workshop of $300+). The Sentiment I used in this card coordinates with the wide oval punch (112082), and the snowflakes are a snap to cut out with the Boho Blossoms punch (110711).

All of the cards today are easy to make in less than 10 minutes, which means they qualify for Sanity Saver status. Keeping your Christmas cards clean and simple is the key to keeping your Christmas card-making Merry and Bright!

Circle Circus Just for You

Share

Ever have trouble sticking to just simple cards? Shelli Gardner, CEO of Stampin' Up!, has given us a new creative challenge for August: stick to "stamps-paper-ink" (and that's it!). For as simple as it sounds, it's really tricky trying to keep myself from adding "just one more thing..." ~smile~

Today's card keeps it simple and certainly can be whipped together in a quick couple of minutes. That means it qualifies for Sanity Saver!

  • Like the cute frames for the greeting? Just use the Word Window, Modern Label, and Large Oval Punches for a fantastic frame that makes greetings "pop"!
  • The Circle Circus stamp set is funky and modern, and I combined the images with a funky color combo too: Crushed Curry, Basic Gray, and Whisper White.
  • Using the corner rounder punch on the edges also adds a little funk-appeal to make this card truly "funk-i-licious!"

Want to give this project a try? All of the supplies I used are listed below. Just CLICK HERE to go to my Stampin' Up! website to order any of the supplies you need. Once you get there, click on "Shop Now" in the upper right hand corner, and use the item numbers listed below.

Happy Birthday, Human

Share
The new "Lots of Bots" stamp set gets us back to the "nuts and bolts" of stamping. I used some classic techniques to put together an easy "bot-day" card. Here are a few tips:
  • To create a multi-colored image, use markers to color directly on your rubber stamp before stamping on cardstock
  • Aquapainters are great for using your ink pad to watercolor an image, as I did on the balloon
  • You can create perfectly centered greetings every time by stamping your greeting on cardstock first, and then using the Word Window punch to cut it out
  • I used the "To the Nines" specialty DSP, which is a textured, cover-weight cardstock that adds a little extra depth and class to any card
  • In a pinch, a quick and easy-to-make card keeps me sane. This card definitely qualifies for "Sanity Saver" status, cards that come together in 15 minutes or less

Want to give this project a try? All of the supplies I used are listed below. Just CLICK HERE to go to my Stampin' Up! website to order any of the supplies you need. Once you get there, click on "Shop Now" in the upper right hand corner, and use the item numbers listed below.

Clean and Simple Mojo Monday

Share

It's time to get our Mojo on! Today's card is inspired by the weekly Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge #96, and I also played along with the Clean and Simple Cards Challenge #24, which is a color challenge this week to use yellow, orange, and turquoise.

A few handy bits of 411 on today's card:

  • To keep it clean and simple, I used score lines, instead of Designer Paper, to create the three panels in the Mojo Monday Sketch. To create the score lines, I used my bone folder and paper trimmer. The paper trimmer's "gutter" and measurements make it easy to space the lines exactly where I want them.
  • I cut out the greeting by hand with paper snips and popped it up on a dimensional snipped in half.
  • A little loop of Bermuda Bay polka dot ribbon tucked under the Pumpkin Pie cardstock adds a simple, but visually interesting, detail to the card.
  • A simple design and quick assembly qualifies this card for "Sanity Saver" status: cards that come together in 15 minutes or less. Want to see more? Click here.
  • The Circle Scissor Plus and Glass Mat make creating layered circles a breeze.

Want to give this project a try? All of the supplies I used are listed below. Just CLICK HERE to go to my Stampin' Up! website to order any of the supplies you need. Once you get there, click on "Shop Now" in the upper right hand corner, and use the item numbers listed below.

Get Well Wishes

Share

Today's card is simple and chic, and can be used for many occasions if you swap out a new greeting from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set. I selected the "get well wishes" from the Teeny Tiny greetings stamp set, but you could use a number of greetings here.

To place the brads, use your paper piercing tool and mat pack for perfect alignment of your brads. The stencil that comes in the mat pack is fantastic to use as a guide for piercing perfectly spaced and lined holes for brads. Helpful Hint: Pierce your DSP first, place brads, and then adhere the group to card for a polished look. No brads poking through to the interior of the card!

Want to give this card a try? You can order supplies from my Stampin' Up! website by clicking here, and then go to "Shop Now" in the upper right hand corner. All of the supplies I used are listed below with their item numbers.

Stampin' Stimulus

Share
Whenever I see great projects and don't have the supplies or they are a little out of my budget, I like to challenge myself to see if I can re-create that stamptastic look on a shoestring budget. It's my own personal stampin' stimulus package! For example, I was cruisin' blogs over the weekend and found this super cute card by Jessica Rone:

Isn't it fantastic?? Such striking colors and nice proportions, with sleek, clean lines. Love it! I decided it was definitely one I wanted to case, BUT tragedies of all tragedies, I just didn't have the Valet Ribbon originals and the Kiwi Kiss Corduroy Buttons and brads in this month's budget. No fear!! A stampin' challenge awaits! So, I got to work trying to figure out how to re-create this gorgeous card on an economically stymied budget. Here's what I came up with:

You can substitute 1/2" or 3/4" punched circles of cardstock (free if you have it on hand!) for brads or buttons ($9.95) and pop them up on dimensionals to give them that 3-D look. Instead of using the valet ribbon originals ($12.95 for 3 yds of 3 designs each), I used the 1/4" grosgrain ribbon ($4.95 for 15 yds). That's a total savings of $17.95!! Helpful Hint: Kiwi Kiss and Old Olive have the same color tones, and can be interchanged easily. This card is also quick and easy, so it definitely qualifies for Sanity Saver (cards in 15 minutes or less) status! So, seen any cute cards to case lately?? Just because you don't have the cash doesn't mean you can't case that stinkin' cute card anyway! I'd love to see what you come up with! Happy Stampin'! ~Heather

Lovin' that Raspberry Tart Much!

Share

Here's a super quick Sanity Saver Valentine Card. I used Rose Red card stock and the Love You Much stamp set to send out a little of the love in my heart for the Raspberry Tart DSP (lovin it!!). Versatile and FAST Birthday Wishes

Share
As I mentioned, I have been on an Urban Garden DSP rampage lately, and today's card is no exception! I created this birthday card because I wanted a card that could easily be given to guys (I have 8 brothers!) but would also work for women. Here are the two versions I came up with by just swapping out the DSP pattern.

When I make cards for guys, I try to keep it simple with clean lines and not too much embellishment. Plus, with so many guys to make cards for, this one is definitely a SANITY SAVER! (15 minutes or less)

The Sincere Salutations stamp set is an absolute must-have! If I were only allowed to have one greeeting set, this would be it. ALL of the greetings come in so handy!

Stamps: Sincere Salutations (115068)

Paper: Basic Gray (108692), Urban Garden DSP (my Fave!!) (112042), Kiwi Kiss (111353), Baja Breeze (111352), Whisper White (100730)
Ink: Basic Gray (109120)
Tools: Ticket Corner Punch (107214), Photo Corners Punch (109042)
Embellishments: 1/4" White Grograin Ribbon (109025)
