Artisan Award Blog Hop: Day 3

Hi again!!  I hope you have been enjoying the hop, I sure have!  I didn't really get to see all of the projects at convention with such a nice detailed view one-by-one, so I am really enjoying being able to see all of these projects!

Here is the next of mine and Sarah's cards.  I used the Tulipe die and used the negative as a stencil on this one.  Even though this isn't one of my fanciest cards, for some reason it is one of my favorites.  Maybe it's because it is the first card I finished!!  Whew!  "One down, a ka-billion more to go..."  :)  I started working on the butterfly card I showed you yesterday very first, but set it aside for quite a while, and then I made this card which came together super fast.

Beautiful Butterflies

Here's a card with lots of sources of inspiration! Our late night stampers group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StampinUpLNStampers) challenge this week is to create a project with butterflies, I used the Mojo Monday sketch challenge, and was inspired by Mary Fish's "Heart" card also featured on the Mojo Monday page. The orange and black remind me of Monarch butterflies, and so I was also inspired by Mother Nature. :)

One of my favorite new items in the Occasions Mini catalog is the Beautiful Wings Embosslit (118138). You just run it through your Big Shot and voila! 5 mini butterflies are fluttering around your paper craft room! I used the embosslit to create all the mini butterflies in my card, and I also used the Beautiful Butterflies Die to create the larger butterfly at the bottom of the card. Boy, Mr. Big has done it again! ;)

Vintage Vogue Friends LNS55

Hi Stampin' friends! It's Monday, which means it is time for a new Late Night Stampers Challenge! This week, the challenge is to create a "Vintage" card, which I knew our brand new "Vintage Vogue" stamp set would be perfect for!

The "vintage" look is not my typical style, but I had fun creating something outside my comfort zone. Vintage is all about a classic, enduring appeal, so I tried to incorporate elements that I think have been around for a long time, and will be for a long time to come. Polka dots are an element I love, and certainly have an enduring appeal, so I added a polka dot background texture (polka dot embossing folder ) and polka dot ribbon. Gold is another element with long-standing appeal, so I added a gold brad. I also like how distressing adds an older feel, so I used a couple of distressing techniques: sponging, scuffing, and "rock n rolling".

Inking of You!

 

I have been th"inking" about Shelli's challenge to use only Stamps-Ink-and-Paper this month, and I thought Thursday's card could be simplified very easily to meet those requirements, so here is the result.

I am having so much fun this weekend playing around with color combos! This card uses So Saffron, Dusty Durango, and Chocolate Chip. Very nice! I love these colors together. They would work really well as Thanksgiving and Fall colors (not that I'm in a hurry for Fall to get here!! I LOVE summertime!). Playing with Bermuda Bay and Dusty Durango

I enjoyed putting together the color combo from Thursday's card so much, I decided to play around with that combo some more...this time, I added some Sage Shadow. I really love Bermuda Bay and Sage Shadow together, too! To create the Circle Circus Medallion:

• First/bottom layer: Stamp in Dusty Durango on Very Vanilla cardstock, punch out with the scallop circle punch, and then sponge the edges in Dusty Durango ink with sponge daubers
• Second layer: Stamp in Bermuda Bay on Bermuda Bay card stock, punch out with 1-3/8" circle punch
• Third layer: stamp on chocolate chip on chocolate chip card stock and punc out with the 1" circle punch
• Top layer: thread linen thread through chocolate chip button from the button latte designer buttons pack and tie knot. Adhere to layered cardstock with a mini-glue dot

Razzleberry Lemonade Friend to Friend

Welcome, August!! I can't believe it's August already... the summer is just flying by. I am loving the warm weather and outdoor lifestyle it brings. This card is definitely summer inspired: floral images and bright, fresh In Colors are the mode du jour! This Mojo Monday-inspired card makes me want to go out and play...I'll hurry and get the 411 down for you, and off to the yard it is!

• The half-back pearls (part of the pretties kit) are the gem of my paper-crafting studio. They add such an elegant statement to any project I put them on!

• Once again, Stampin' Up!'s Punches come to the rescue! My friend borrowed my Modern Label punch (which is my favorite "greeting" punch right now!) so I had to come up with some other way to dress up the greeting. It turns out, the large oval punch frames greetings very well. Helpful Hint: by punching an oval with the large oval punch, and then trimming the top and bottom off, you can create a funky greeting like the one shown here.
• I know! What more needs to be said about such cute, versatile ribbon?? I just can't get enough!

So Tweet!

Here is a simple and 'tweet' card any friend would love to receive! I think the cute birds in the stamp sets "Cheep Talk" and "Good Friend" are just adorable! My color inspiration today was the splitcoast color challenge #227: purple, yellow, gray, white, and black. Obviously I didn't stick to the color challenge exactly (I omitted the black), but I sure like how this card turned out, anyway!

The only tricky part to this card is inking the pear: first ink the stamp using the barely banana classic stampin' pad, then use the rich razzleberry marker to ink the center seeds, and finally, lightly roll the edge of the stamp along the bottom of the pear in the Rich Razzleberry ink pad. Helpful Hint: this technique is called "Rock 'N Roll"!

Here's another tip: when you have small strips of paper, like the barely banana accent I used here, use the two-way glue pen to adhere. It's the perfect tool for the job because it has a fine tip and "writes" adhesive exactly where you need it.

To add a feminine accent, I used the scallop edge punch to create that cute border. Next, I used the paper piercing tool to pierce holes along the edge. This gives it a little bit of a lace-ish look, don't you think?

Sneak Peak!! Just for You

Each year, Stampin' Up! changes out 6 of their colors, In Colors, to keep our choices fresh and in style with current color trends. This year is no exception! Here's a card just for you with a few sneak peaks at some of the new products in the 2009-2010 catalog! What do you think of those colors?? Ok, ok, back to my card. I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch for the layout (although, I admit, I didn't exactly stick strictly to it!). The sketch is shown here:

This is not your everyday, run-of-the-mill, card size! I guess every once in a while I need to get out of my 4.25x5.5" comfort zone and 'stretch' out my card a bit! The dimensions I used are: 7"x4". I love to mix and match stamp sets just to see what "plays nicely together". That is definitely the case here. I used Eastern Blooms, Bird on a Branch, Teeny Tiny Wishes (New!!), and Circle Circus (New!!) stamp sets. (Click on any images you would like a close-up of!) I can tell you already that the In Color Polka Dot Ribbon is going to be on a lot of my projects this year because it is so cute, not to mention versatile! The opposite side is plain grosgrain, so it can be used with polka dots or without. It's like the Day and Evening look for ribbon! The NEW Razzleberry Lemonade DSP adds a lot of sweet, and not much sour! Look all all the fantastic prints!

For that final touch, I got out my paper piercing tool and placed (3) 5/16" whisper white brads at the left base of the card. Adding a little something at the bottom corner of a card often gives it a finished looked because it balances what is going on at the top part of the card. With a longer card like this, a "little something" was definitely needed. You like what you see?? Classy and Fabulous!

It's Monday! That means it's Mojo Monday time! And with my new "Classy and Fabulous" stamp set, I am feeling fabulous, too. I modified today's sketch just a bit by rotating the image (I didn't want her to fall out of her chair!):

I used my markers to add lots of color and detail to my images, and kept my backgrounds simple with plain cardstock and minimal embellishments. I couldn't help myself and had to get something with the Big Shot in there (it's just too much fun to play with!) and used the Top Note Bigz die for my cute chocolate chip background frame. Flight of the Butterfly

Isn't that a gorgeous flower!! I love how it turned out. To make it, I punched out 4 scallop circles, count out 6 scallops and folded, then turned it over and folded the two edges in toward the center. For a picture tutorial, CLICK HERE. A Splash of Color

I was flipping through the pottery barn catalog and got a splash of color inspiration! Who knew this is what butterfly-print pillows translate into in card language! haha~ I love the Sweet Serendipity stamp set, too. The sentiments are perfect for telling a best friend how fantastic her friendship is, and that is just what this card is for! One of my best friend's birthdays is coming up soon, and what better way to describe our 15 years of laughter, serendipitous moments, and adventures together?? happy stampin! Heather

Lovin' that Raspberry Tart Much!

Here's a super quick Sanity Saver Valentine Card. I used Rose Red card stock and the Love You Much stamp set to send out a little of the love in my heart for the Raspberry Tart DSP (lovin it!!). Plus, the cute heart and flower accents were punched using the three-flower punch and the three-heart punch. And see that little white accent in the middle of the flower?
