Crazy for Circle Circus

Share
Birthdays are all about bright, festive colors and fun shapes and surprises. When I was choosing my colors for this page, I immediately went to our new In Colors. They are bright and fun, just the thing I wanted! I chose Crushed Curry, Bermuda Bay, and Soft Suede from the In Colors, and threw in some Real Red and Whisper White, as well.
  • Both the 1/2" ribbons I used on this page are "polka dot": one is showing its spots and the other is not! That's what I love about the new In Color ribbon: Polka dot, or NOT! It's up to you because one side has spots and the other doesn't.
  • Clear buttons: I placed a 1" crushed curry circle behind a clear button to add some dimension and extra color to the birthday title.
  • A styled silver brad from the hodgepodge hardware set complements and accents the Bermuda Bay ribbon.
  • Glam up a cute cupcake by using your two-way glue pen to sprinkle on some chunky essentials glitter.
  • Add some extra fun by stamping on your cardstock and cutting out your images in different colors.

If a layout doesn't just pop into my head (it usually doesn't!), I need a little inspiration. Do you need some sketch inspiration when you're working on scrapbook pages? Sometimes I find layout inspiration from packaging on products I use (like the other day when I tore off the front of a cereal box because I thought it would make a good page layout!), and other times I like to peruse the sketch challenges at splitcoast. Today's pages were inspired by Sketch Challenge #23:

I also incorporated the scrapbook variety challenge #87, which is to use elements from "Rock, Paper, Scissors". For my "rock", I used the chunky essentials glitter, for "paper" I tore the edges of the frames, and for "scissors" I used my circle punches. Fun stuff!

Cottage Wall Birthday Wishes

Share

Today's card is all about texture: textured cardstock, crimping, embossing, piercing and scrunching! You can get a better close-up of all that texture by clicking on the picture of the card.

  • The beautiful background was featured in yesterday's card: I just can't get enough of the very affordable and adorable finial press embossing folder. One quick zip through the Big Shot, and Voila! instant gorgeous-ness!
  • Textured cardstock, like the Textured Rich Razzleberry I used for the flower petals, adds a subtle depth to projects
  • I have a very technical term for the texture added to the center of the flower: scrunch and runch! ~smile~ That just means muss it up! When I was doing it, it reminded me of when you get a stain in your clothes and hurry to scrub it out under running water by rubbing the sides together (minus the running water for cardstock!)
  • The lovely white organza ribbon has a smooth, delicate texture, and adds elegance to any card
  • I used my crimper to add some extra texture to the leaves, and ran my bone folder down their centers to create a leaf "vein"
  • Piercing around the edge of the flower center also adds an interesting dimension to the floral image

Putting the flower and greeting together today was all about punches:

  • The petals are 3/4" punched circles
  • The flower center is a 1-3/8" circle punch and a 1-1/4" circle punch
  • Use the small oval punch to create leaves
  • I love how the Modern Label punch and the Word Window punch work so well together, but today I made another discovery! The Oval punch also fits perfectly behind the modern label for an added "umph!" to the greeting.
  • The rounded edges give this card a soft finish. The corner rounder is the perfect tool for this job!

People often ask me about where I get inspiration for my cards, this particular card had two sources of inspiration. First, the inspiration for the layout started with Splitcoast Sketch challenge #239 (even though I didn't quite stick to it!).

I love online challenges (like today's sketch challenge), because they push me to try something new, plus I get to see what everyone else thinks of, too! Check out the online gallery for more inspiration!

Second, my color inspiration came from the Cottage Wall DSP (115671). It is absolutely gorgeous!

Beautiful Butterflies Cottage Wall

Share

The beautiful butterflies Bigz die is just that, BEAUTIFUL! I just can't get enough of it. I would probably start out by going on and on about all the cute In Color Polka Dot ribbon, but I am in love with the butterfly dies, too! Oh, and then next we'd have to chat about the NEW finial press embossing folder, because at just $7.95 (really!!!), you simply cannot afford to be WITHOUT it! I used it to add the subtle floral texture on the pale plum background. The designer paper I used on this card is also NEW: Cottage Wall. It is feminine and fantastic!

The inspiration for today's card came from the Clean and Simple Challenge #25, to case this card by Krystie Lee:

I kept the same basic layout, but changed the dimensions, colors, DSP, and embellishments. I love to play along with various weekly challenges, it keeps inspiration coming!

I can't believe how the new Idea Book & Catalog is just packed from front to back with so many affordable, ADORABLE new products. If you haven't gotten your copy, yet, this is the last week I am offering it for just $5 (regular price $9.95). Email me to get your copy today!

The half-back pearls are another fave of mine, an oldie, but goodie! I used them to create the body of the butterfly. I adhered them using a mini-glue dot on each. It turns out mini-glue dots are just the right size for the half-backed pearl.

As I mentioned, the new In Color polka dot grosgrain ribbon is pretty high up there on my faves list in the new catalog, I love that it is two-sided: use the polka dots or not, it's up to you!

Hello Mojo!

Share
It is Monday, and you know what that means! Mojo Monday time! I didn't stick exactly to the sketch, I turned the card lengthwise and re-arranged a couple of elements: This sketch gave me the perfect opportunity to use my Circle Scissor Plus, a fantastic tool for making nested circles up to 6".
This tool is a little tricky to get used to at first, but I have all the insider tips for you to make perfect circles every time:
  • use a little dotto on your paper to hold it in place while you cut your circles
  • spin the wheel around over your paper before cutting to make sure your placement fits the size of circle you want to cut
  • the glass mat is an excellent surface to cut on

Today's card is for my cousin, I'm attending her baby shower on Thursday, and I'm so excited for her! It's always fun to have a new baby in the family. When I started to work on a card for her, Tall Tales DSP came to mind. I knew as soon as I saw the NEW Tall Tales Designer Series Paper it was going to be one of my favorite DSP packages. It's so versatile, from adorable animal prints, to cute florals, and masculine stripes, this paper really goes the extra mile!

The photo corners punch makes adding a subtle "something" to corners a snap. I added a chocolate chip photo corner in the upper left side of the card.

I also added some jumbo brads from the Vanilla Styled Hodgepodge Hardware set to the lower right corner of the card. I just love them! I'm not sure it shows in the photo, but they have engraved stars in the centers of the brads. So fun!

For You! Wallet Gift Card Holder

Share

My dear friend, Shanna Jensen, made an adorable photo wallet for her husband on Father's Day and was kind enough to show me how she did it. I had so much fun making my own, I couldn't wait to post mine. I even made a tutorial for you because I think you'll have lots of fun making these, too! Click here to download my tutorial.

I am always talking about how much I love all of the punches Stampin' Up! offers, and today is no exception. I used the Modern Label punch, Word Window punch, 1" Circle punch, Corner Rounder punch, and Designer Label punch all on this gift card holder!

  • Create an easy label like the one shown below the gift card using the Designer Label Punch and 1" circle punch. I'm going to use this label to write the amount on the gift card. You could also use this space to write the recipient's name.
  • I love combining rhinestone brads with the NEW Modern Label punch, like I did on the front of the wallet. Rhinestones are always gorgeous and add some serious bling to any card, and I just love how they fit so perfectly with the Modern Label.
  • It's easy to add some "wear and tear" to your wallet by distressing with a sponge and ink pad. I used the classic chocolate chip ink pad and a stampin' sponge to lightly distress the edges of my wallet.

All of the supplies I used are listed below. Just CLICK HERE to go to my Stampin' Up! website to order any of the supplies you need. Once you get there, click on "Shop Now" in the upper right hand corner, and use the item numbers listed below.

Happy Birthday, Human

Share
The new "Lots of Bots" stamp set gets us back to the "nuts and bolts" of stamping. I used some classic techniques to put together an easy "bot-day" card. Here are a few tips:
  • To create a multi-colored image, use markers to color directly on your rubber stamp before stamping on cardstock
  • Aquapainters are great for using your ink pad to watercolor an image, as I did on the balloon
  • You can create perfectly centered greetings every time by stamping your greeting on cardstock first, and then using the Word Window punch to cut it out
  • I used the "To the Nines" specialty DSP, which is a textured, cover-weight cardstock that adds a little extra depth and class to any card
  • In a pinch, a quick and easy-to-make card keeps me sane. This card definitely qualifies for "Sanity Saver" status, cards that come together in 15 minutes or less

Thinking of You

Stampin' Up! has so many fabulous punches, and this card takes advantage of several of them.

  • The Modern Label Punch frames the greeting, the Word Window Punch makes the greeting "pop!", and the Scallop Edge Punch adds a pretty border.
  • Tall Tales Designer Series Paper has a lot of great images for making kids cards, but it also has some great patterns for just about any card! It's a very versatile paper set.
  • 5/16" Jumbo Brads make a statement, even with a bold and bright pattern behind them.
  • Using the Stamp-a-ma-jig helps with perfect placement of stamped images. Have you ever tried the Stamp-a-ma-jig?? It is a fantastic tool for getting the placement of your images "just right". Download a .pdf tutorial on using the Stamp-a-ma-jig (101049) HERE.

Bermuda Bay Ink Update

Share
Stampin' Up! announced today that the quality issue with the Bermuda Bay Classic ink has been successfully resolved! The ink pad and refill will again be available for order on Wednesday, July 29.

For demonstrators that ordered in the "pre-order": Backorders have begun to ship, and order corrections begin early next week. If you ordered a Bermuda Bay Classic ink pad or refill during the Sneak Peek period between June 1 and June 19, replacement items will automatically be sent to you, so you do not need to call to initiate an order correction.

A little more Christmas in July

When I think of Christmas, thinking of treats isn't far behind! A Peek-a-Boo box filled with goodies makes a lovely gift for co-workers, neighbors and acquaintances.
  • 3-D items (especially treat boxes!) need a little extra help to hold up to the extra wear and tear they encounter. Sticky strip is just the adhesive for the job! Once you adhere with sticky strip, it is going to stay like that forever.
  • To get a multi-color stamped image, use markers to color directly on the stamp before stamping on your paper. Helpful Hint: For this treat box, I inked the entire image in Chocolate Chip and then used a blender pen to take up the ink from "Merry" and the star. Next, I colored with my Real Red marker directly on the stamp.
  • Window sheets are a fun way to showcase what's inside. Just adhere using a mini-glue dot in each corner.
  • All of Stampin' Up!'s Designer Series Papers (DSP) are two-sided, so it is perfect for a fun surprise on the inside of a treat box like this. I used the "Merry Moments" DSP shown here (you can click on the image to get a close-up view):
