PLAY like you mean it

Share

Today's project is a double-page scrapbook layout featuring "Bugs & Kisses" stamp set.  The Bugs & Kisses stamp set is an "oldie but goodie".  Every year when the new catalog is released, I wait to see if this set is going to make it another round.  It sure did!  I love this set, and I'm so happy we get to keep it in the catalog for at least one more year.  Take a look and see what I mean!  Isn't it cute??

I created the "Play" title using the Simple Letters Alphabet Dies (115960) and Mr. Big (113439).  I know, I know, I never make anything without the Big Shot anymore!  I can't help it if the Big Shot is so fabulous!  That is one purchase I will never regret.   I used the Crimper Tool (101618) to add some whimsical, playful texture to the letters.

I agaub used the Big Shot and Top Note die for the decorative accent here on the frame shown here. I love to tuck a Top Note under the corner of journaling or photo frames for a little extra "something."

Here's a fun little trick to try using the Circle Circus stamp set: create your own DSP (Designer Series Paper) by stamping a pattern on white cardstock.  That's how I made the "L" in "Play" and this photo corner really POP! Helpful Hint: Photo corners are a snap with the Photo corners punch (119878)

Jingle All the Way

Share
Are you dying to start decorating for Christmas like I am?? I have been bugging my husband since the first of November...
"What do you say we start putting up Christmas decorations?" (hopeful smile) "mmm." (nose wrinkle)

A few days later...
"So, those Christmas decorations sure seem like they would love to get out of those boxes!" (another hopeful smile)
"mmm." (grumble)

"Now??" (hopeful smile #3)

I think it's working...? Well, maybe not yet, but soon! So, in the meantime, here is a project I was working on last night. My poor Christmas cards class this morning! Instead of prepping supplies for class this morning, I ended up working on this! I was just a little behind schedule... :)

This project features the "Jingle All the Way" vinyl (114707) from the Decor Elements catalog. Want a FREE copy of the Decor Elements catalog? Just Email Me and I'll put yours in the mail today!

I also used Merry Moments DSP (115672), Chocolate Chip Taffeta Ribbon (109065), Mr. Big (113439) and the Fan-tabulous Top Note Die (113463). I purchased the shadow box at a local craft store.

Let It Snow!

Share

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

I am sooo not ready for winter, and yet I think it's pretty much here...judging by all the snow outside my door!! Hopefully, making these pages will help me get into the winter spirit!

This fantastic layout was inspired by pages my upline, Shanna Jensen, made last year.

I definitely enjoyed making this paper snowman a lot more than making a real one! Didn't he turn out cute??

What can I say?? Mr. Big and his snazzy dies are just the best! I used the Snowflake #2, Top Note Die, and Simple Letters Alphabet set on these pages. Have you tried out any of the taffeta ribbon, yet? I love it. It is sooo pretty and ties so nicely! Here, I used the Kraft Taffeta Ribbon.

Christmas Dasher

Share
I have been working on Christmas cards all this month, and I'm super excited for my Christmas cards class coming up this Saturday! Today's card is one of the cards for my Christmas cards class, and features the "Dasher" single stamp (in the Under $10 section of the Idea Book and catalog!). I was inspired by this lovely Top Note Box on Split Coast Stampers.

When I design Christmas cards, I always have simplicity in mind (I send out over 300 cards each year (!) so I have to keep them simple to keep myself sane). This card has a fancy look, but it is all due to the magic of Mr Big (The Big Shot!). I used my Big Shot, Top Note Die, and Scallop Circle #2 Die to create those curves.

Ready to have some Stampin' fun?? All of the supplies I used are listed below. Just CLICK HERE to go to my Stampin' Up! website to order any of the supplies you need. Once you get there, click on "Shop Now" in the upper right hand corner, and use the item numbers listed below.

Thankful Mojo

Share

It's Mojo time!  For those of you who have been following my blog for a while, you know that Mojo Monday is one of my favorite online sketch challenges.  Here is this week's sketch:

  • To create the fanciful frame I used to dress up my sentiment, just take another look at the Top Note Die...see it?  I simply ran it through my big shot, and then trimmed off the top and bottom with my paper trimmer.
  • The stamped background image comes from the Fresh Cuts set.  I "rocked and rolled" it by first inking my stamp in Crushed Curry ink, and then rolling the edges of the stamp in the Dusty Durange ink pad.  I stamped first on scrap paper and then onto my paper so that it has a lighter color. Helpful Hint: Stamping on scrap paper before you stamp on your paper (without re-inking the stamp) to get a lighter image is called "Stamping Off"
  • Are you loving rouched ribbon as much as I am??  I cut a strip of 1/2" Soft Suede card stock, got it nice and sticky with sticky strip, and then adhered my gathered ribbon to the card stock bit by bit.
  • Those extra large scallops are extra easy to make when you use your 1-3/8" circle punch!  I just punched out circles and adhered to my paper next to each other to create the same look as a large scallop punch.

Ready to have some Stampin' fun?? All of the supplies I used are listed below. Just CLICK HERE to go to my Stampin' Up! website to order any of the supplies you need. Once you get there, click on "Shop Now" in the upper right hand corner, and use the item numbers listed below.

Ruffles and Ribbons, Oh my!

Share

This sweet-i-licious card may look like it causes cavities, but the only effect it will have is smiles on your recipient's face!

I found this adorable pillow, and knew I needed some rufflies, too!

To create this runched-ribbon effect:

  1. Cover a circle of cardstock in SNAIL. Helpful Hint: The Circle Scissor Plus (112530) cuts circles with ease! Best when used with the Glass Mat (112531).
  2. "Mush" gathered ribbon into the glue, start at the base of the cupcake and working your way to the other side. When you finish one row, simply turn the corner and work your way back across the next row until you've covered your cupcake.
  3. Tuck the ends of the ribbon around to the back side of the cupcake and adhere to the back.
>
To create the cupcake base:
  1. Use the scallop edge punch to scallop one side of chocolate chip card stock
  2. Use your paper trimmer and scoring blade to score lines from the base to the "notches" between each scallop. To enhance the score lines, sponge on chocolate chip ink.
  3. Use your paper trimmer to cut the chocolate chip cardstock at an angle.
Et Voila! A delicious birthday card your friends and family would love to receive!

All of the supplies I used for this card are listed below. Just CLICK HERE to go to my Stampin' Up! website to order any of the supplies you need. Once you get there, click on "Shop Now" in the upper right hand corner, and use the item numbers listed below.

Summer Scrapbook Pages

Share

I know it's all back to school time, fall, leaves, blah blah blah... ~smile~ BUT I just want to hold on to our last shred of summertime!! That's what inspired the butterflies and title on these pages. Otherwise, these colors are actually great for autumn. You could just switch out the butterflies for leaves, and the title to "Autumn". Haha, I just can't let go of summer, yet!

  • With the Big Shot, decorative cutting is so EASY! I used mine for the butterflies and Top Note frame
  • Hodgepodge hardware has a way of dressing up the look of any project you're working on. I used the Vanilla Designer Label frame on these pages.
  • I still can't get enough of that adorable polka-dot In Color ribbon! I added just a touch of ribbon, but it makes such a difference.

All of the supplies I used for these pages are listed below. Just CLICK HERE to go to my Stampin' Up! website to order any of the supplies you need. Once you get there, click on "Shop Now" in the upper right hand corner, and use the item numbers listed below.

Thinking of You Top Note Die

Share

Wow! I love how this color combo came together! It's a really unusual combo (especially for me) but I love how it turned out! As you've probably heard, the Medallion Background stamp is Stampin' Up!s best-seller right now, and I can see why! The *second* I saw it in the 2009-2010 Idea Book & Catalog, I knew I just had to have it!

To create the stamped multi-colored Medallion image shown in this card:

  1. Ink entire stamp in Dusty Durango
  2. Use sponge dauber and sponge Soft Suede ink directly onto your medallion stamp
  3. Roll the edges of the stamp in Soft Suede ink pad
  4. Stamp the image on Very Vanilla cardstock
  5. Use sponge dauber to sponge on Bermuda Bay ink and distress the edges

And Voila! INSTANT gorgeous-ness!

The Big Shot Top Note Die is also one of my favorites...it makes really nice frames on scrapbook pages, gorgeous backgrounds for cards, adorable treat bag toppers, the list goes on and on. On occasion, I have wished that it didn't quite take up an entire card front...and eureka! It doesn't have to! Check out my picture tutorial to give this mini-Top Note technique a try!

1. Start with your Top Note Die (as usual)

2. Send your paper through your Big Shot3. This is what the Top Note looks like when you send it through the first time4. Using your Top Note Die again, rotate the paper 90 degrees on the Die. 5. When you send it through your Big Shot the second time, it comes out like this!

All of the supplies I used are listed below. Just CLICK HERE to go to my Stampin' Up! website to order any of the supplies you need. Once you get there, click on "Shop Now" in the upper right hand corner, and use the item numbers listed below.

Are you as excited about the September 1st release of the Holiday Mini-Catalog as I am?? If not, it's because you haven't seen all the ADORABLE new products coming! Email me to get your free copy sent to you in the mail!

Don't forget, the $85 starter kit promotion is ending soon! Don't let this fantastic opportunity slip away...!

Beautiful Butterflies Chest of Drawers

Share

One of my club members brought a similar chest of drawers to class last week, and I just couldn't wait to make one of my own!! What a fun and creative project. Thanks Rhoda for a fabulous idea!

This adorable chest of drawers is actually quite easy to make. It does take time to assemble all of the matchboxes, but it is super easy to make because the Big Shot does all the cutting for you!

First, do all of your die-cutting using the Big Shot:
4 Matchboxes with cardstock
2 Top Notes with cardstock
1 Top Note with DSP (I used Razzleberry Lemonade)
2 Beautiful Butterflies with DSP (also from Razzleberry Lemonade)

Crystal Effects is a cool way to give your projects a glassy finish, but did you also know it is a great adhesive, too?? I used crystal effects to outline the edges of the butterflies, and then dumped on chunky glitter essentials for dazzling butterfly wings. With crystal effects holding it in place, that glitter isn't going anywhere!

To make the body of the butterfly, I used purple crafting wire (available at craft stores) and wrapped it around the layered butterflies several times. When I liked how it looked, I finished it off by wrapping the wire around itself a couple of times to make a head, and trimmed the wire leaving two antenna.

I used sticky strip to adhere all 4 matchboxes together. Helpful Hint: whenever I make 3-D projects, I always use sticky strip because it is very strong and holds things together very well.

For a decorative trim around the chest of drawers, I first stamped the floral image from the Razzle Dazzle stamp set on my 1-3/4" x 9.3/4" crushed curry cardstock and wrapped it around the outside of the 4 matchboxes. Helpful Hint: I used my bone folder to score the edges for crisp folds.

I created the top and bottom of the chest of drawers using the Top Note Bigz Die. I trimmed around the perforated edge of the DSP Top Note, and adhered to my Crushed Curry Top Note to decorate the top of the chest. I added some bling to the drawer fronts by using my paper piercing tool to place 4 clear rhinestone brads. Helpful Hint: Getting the holes for the rhinestones right in the center of your drawers is a snap when you use the clear guide from the mat pack. You can also use a ruler and make a small pencil mark to help you know where to pierce.
